Carnaval Approaches
Yes the heady days of festivity and a damn good party (or indeed parties) are approaching.
This year 17 to 23 February.
There are parades with over 40 Carnaval floats on Sunday (19th February) and Tuesday (21st February) – everyone joins in with the parade throughout the town. Chaotic and great fun and don’t expect to sleep that much as the party goes on all night.
Saturday 18 February is of course the night that you dress up and parade – everyone (gay, straight and not-sure!!) dresses up in the weird and wonderful and fantastic. Oldies, youngsters teens and “those who should know better – bank managers, councillors, hotel owners and clerks and bar staff. People will congregate and go around town together being photographed and taking a libation of 3 in the next and alternative bar. Good natured and fun-loving police ensure there is little trouble and things are kept in order.
Bar owners will decorate and encourage you to party.
