The building of the hotel dates back to 1886, when the building was constructed for a returning Sitgean who had made his money in Cuba and wanted to have a house built for his family that the townspeople would recognise as a statement of achievement.  It was built over 4 floors with a courtyard garden, with a formal entrance and salon on the ground floor with high-ceilinged (4,3metres!) reception rooms on the first floor, family bedrooms on the second floor and servants’ quarters on the third floor.

This was the building that was bought in 1962 by 2 enterprising Spanish lads who converted it into a hotel for their like-minded (mainly gay but not at this time openly so) friends and clients.  They  ran the hotel until the mid-eighties when they both unfortunately died of AIDS and the hotel was somewhat abandoned and fell into dis-repair, becoming the subject of a bitter battle between the families of the 2 guys.

Eventually a German guy was able to but the building and he re-branded it as the “Hotel Liberty” adding on the top floor a spacious apartment for himself with extensive terraces that gave great views over the town both to the sea and to the hills of the Garraf.

He ran the hotel with a number of friends for 5 years and sold to Jon & Eddie who have been running the hotel ever since – making significant changes along the way : a new bar and conservatory for breakfast service. New ensuite shower rooms, balconies and new tiling to the terraces of the first-floor, new parquet flooring for the third floor rooms, all new beds throughout etc etc.  And since then redecoration on a yearly basis, new bedroom furniture on a rolling renewal programme and new bed-linens and towels as required.

Gaudi-esque tiling to the walls leading to the first floor and some modern art works and new lights and so on… on a continuing renewal and improvement program : including new air-conditioning units, a new boiler and high pressure water pumps for the showers.

So care and attention to detail, one of the best breakfasts in town which is served from 9am until 11,30am, and a friendly early evening bar – from 7 to 10pm – all go to make the hotel a home from home and a place of comfort and calm. Room only from 01 November to 22 December and then again from 03 January, until Carnaval – in 2012 this is 17 to 22 February – and the until 01 April when we start service  of breakfast again.
